First, before I start ranting about the suckitude of today's football game against Pitt, let me clarify something: a lot of people have been asking if Drake and I are engaged because of some things that were said recently in a few of my posts. No, we are not engaged, I would be a lot less subtle about it if that were the case. However, I don't doubt that it will happen sometime in the next 6 - 8 months. It is something we have talked about a lot recently, and this has to do with me 'The One' post I did a week or so ago. If you found your One, you know. I found my One, and that's that, regardless of how long we have been together.
Now, on to the bullshit: I long for the glory days of Husker Football, when Redouts meant something, when touchdown balloons were sent flying on the first drive of the game, when the band played our school song after touchdowns. Now they play our school song after first downs because touchdowns by the offense have become so rare. If you thought our first game (a win) against Maine was horrible, we somewhat redeemed ourselves by the outstanding performance by the Blackshirts last weekend against Wake Forest. I particularly liked when Bullocks literally ripped the ball from the running back (I think he was an RB) and scored a touchdown. Now, against Pitt, of all teams, our lone score game from our quarterback, who scrambled to even get that. Honestly, today it was not a matter of the Huskers winning today, it was simply that Pitt lost. That's how bad the game was. I just miss the days, like my freshman year and even sophomore year where we rolled people. Granted, my freshman year ended wth a loss at Colorado and then in the Rose Bowl to Miami, but that was also the last class recruited by Tom Osborne...
...and as a sidenote, while Osborne may have been one of the greatest football coached ever, coaching and politics are not the same thing. I am not sure why everyone thinks he will be so great as governor. I know this is almost blasphemy on my part, but seriously, no people, no. Tom should not be governor...
...and also speaking of the Colorado football program, they are quite possibly the most class-less program in the nation. In the season I mentioned where they beat us horribly and went on to win the Big 12 over Texas, they actually had the nerve to put the scoreboard of the game against us on their championship rings. How disgusting, how ridiculous. Oh, and then there are the "minor" incidents involving the drugs, alcohol, and rape that have been going on for who knows how long. Gary Barnett should be strung up and his program should be used to make an example for everyone. College athletes are still college students and should not be treated any differently, I don't care how amazing they are...
...Now back to my rant. Sinley and I for sure are getting t-shirts made to proclaim our "love" for Coach Douche McDouche, and by "love" I mean "contempt" and by "Coach Douche McDouche" I mean Coach Bill Callahan. The shirts are going to be hott. You'll just have to wait and see them, but most likely we will have them by the Oklahoma game. I just can not support a man, no matter how much I love this program, when after a year coaching here he is asked what he likes best about Nebraska and the best repsonse he can give is, "My office." Talk about blatant disrespect for a state that is blindly following him in hopes we can return to the powerhouse we once were. I hate to say it for al of you who really are blinded, but that's not going to happen under Callahan.

Not that I necessarily support Mr. Osborne's governorship campaign, but why shouldn't he be our governor? There is more to the man than his abilities as a football coach.
Because I believe a lot of people want to blindly follow him based ONLY what he has done as a football coach. I think many people assume because he was phenomenal at one, he will automatically be great at the other and that's not a given by any means.
But he's already proven his worth as a politician as our 3rd district representative in Congress. Honestly, he can't be any worse as governor than Johanns was.
That may be, however I do stand by my opinion still that many people will vote for him simply based on football alone. This is all but proven by all the 'You and Tom' stickers present at every Husker home game thus far.
Maybe you've never noticed, but every other Nebraskan running for some higher-up office hands out junk at Husker games, too. Mr. Osborne's campaign isn't the first to have used that tactic, nor will his be the last. And aren't you assuming a lot in saying that the numbers of people wearing the 'You and Tom' stickers at the game proves that they're voting based on his football record? Isn't it possible that the sticker-wearers may have already made up their minds to vote for him before some Young Republican activist handed them a sticker at the stadium?
Yes I have noticed. However, none of those candidates ever coached the Huskers to a bajillion national championships, thus their names did not carry nearly as much weight. If Tom wins because he is the best guy for the job, then that is great and fine by me. However, if he wins just because he was a good football coach, then that's another story entirely.
Alright, I'm done arguing. :-P
